Research Specialist

The Marine Science Institute at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) seeks a specialist to work with researchers at UCSB and other institutions to establish and operate the State of CaliforniaÕs Coastal Ocean Currents Monitoring Program (COCMP).  The specialist will participate in the ongoing operation and maintenance activities of a network of high frequency (HF) radio systems on the central and southern California coasts.  These activities include field equipment installation, troubleshooting, data archiving, and development of computer programs and scripts for automatically processing and displaying real-time environmental data products on a web server.  Other activities include working with agency and research personnel to gain access to new field locations for HF radio sites.   This position will be located at the Marine Science Institute at UCSB.  Travel to remote sites and technical meetings are components of this position.

 

Salary:  Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

 

Minimum Qualifications: BS degree in physical science, engineering, or related area and experience with MATAB, UNIX, and/or Mac-OS.  Preferred: Experience with scripting languages, web site development and maintenance, and internet communications.

 

Term of Appointment: 2 years, subject to renewal based on performance and availability of funding.
